Update -- September 5, 2008
Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,
Ah, summer ends...we are all back in school, and the Autumnal Equinox comes up September 22, officially kicking of Fall.
September is traditionally not a very busy diving time for competition, as August just saw the major Nationals and International competitions (how 'bout them Olympics, huh? especially the awesome last-minute upset of the Chinese by Aussie Matthew Mitcham on 10M. If you want to see any of the diving online, go to NBCOLYMPICS.COM, where you will find a plethora of videos).
The one thing that DOES happen in September is the USA Diving Annual Meeting, a national convention that will be held in Atlanta this year. I am a member of several committees, and will be attending this year, so we will not be having any diving the week of 23-28, as I will be traveling or attending the Meeting on all those dates. To make up for that week, though, we will have practices on Sat-Sun for the three weekends leading up to the 23rd, AND we will host a meet on Saturday, August 20.
AUGUST HIGHLIGHTS:
Tate is doing some awesome 101B and 401Bs, as well as getting her 201A more comfortable. She is also working 201C in belts, and 102C on 1M with a spot. Emily is also improving her 101B actions, and doing some great 102C 1M with a spot. She is doing 002A independently on 3M, and working 002C and 201C as well. Roberto has gotten 101C 1M and 3M, and is working 401C 1M with a spot. Kellar has gotten the hand of his 002A 1M while improving his boardwork and jumping actions both boards (just got his 200A 3M independently for the first time Thursday. Mikayla is doing better with her basic lines and has gotten 101C and 201A 1M, as well as 001C 3M. Kacie is doing some great jumping and lineup actions as well, and is ready to start some more of the diving actions soon. Dimi got his 301C, 302C, and 103C 1M, as well as his 201C 3M. Once he's feeling a little more control and consistency, we'll be getting 103C, 301C, and 403C 3M. Jace is back with a vengeance, throwing 403C 3M (and 1M) and 104C and 5122D 1M. He is working 203C in the belts, and will hopefully be ready for that one soon! Alena is doing great 301C and 103C actions with approaches, and just needs some more confidence in her entries! She also learned 302C and 5211A 1M and 202A 3M. Joanna is doing her 5231D 3M regularly now, and has done a few fantastic 105Cs 3M (but her glacially slow arms and chin-ducked throw make this dive inconsistent), and has learned 203C 1M! She is getting the first level of "big girl" dives! Linnet has improved her 201 and 301 actions greatly, and her pikes are coming along. She is finally standing up her 103B 3M and getting good tops on 403C 1M. Her 104C 1M is there, when she believes in it and starts to KICK OUT! Ashley has taken a lot of time off, and is starting to get back in the swing of things. Her standups are looking better, we just need to see her at the pool more often to get her on an upward trajectory again. Kai is diving extremely well on 1M, doing his 403B more smoothly, consistently making his 5223D and 303C now, and showing his stuff on 203B. Hopefully, we'll see him up on 3M more often, so we can get him a competitive list up there. Madison has had an incredible first month of diving, learning dives in every direction, including reverses with a spot. She is also really starting to get the hang of jumping vertically and getting aligned. I think we'll see another burst of learning from her in the next month. Coach Jeff has not been able to train as much 3M and Platform as he'd like to, but has gotten off his newly re-learned 105B 1M and 5233D 1M.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Tropic Lightning will be hosting an intrasquad, dual meet, or small invitational on September 20, before Coach Jeff goes to the USA Diving Convention.
