Update -- September 25, 2007
Dear Divers, Families, and Supporters,
Thanks for an awesome meet on Saturday.
It was our first USA Diving meet since 2002, and it went very smoothly.
I got all kinds of compliments from the Sunshine Diving Club divers,
parents, and coaches! You all rock!
Here are some highlights:
Support work:
Thanks to everyone for bringing grinds for the after-meet party (I just
wish more of the Sunshine families stuck around for it – but better to be
over-prepared than under-prepared, and we scored points with the pool staff when
we offered them free lunch!). Thanks
to the Eaton and Park-Okuna
families for providing the extra shade structures which made things very nice
for the divers, judges, and table help. Fantastic
job to everyone who worked the table – it went even more smoothly than our
Intra-squad tryouts, thanks to our recruiting a Sunshine parent to serve as the
master scorer and freeing Siew up to do
back-up in the way that job was intended). And several of you helped out attaching the ribbons to the
medals, a job that we couldn’t fully tackle until we knew who all would be
diving in what events. Thank the
powers that be that I had some extra medals, as we discovered that the medal
shop somehow forgot to give me any silvers (and this made the golds even more
special, since they were unique J).
Bravo/Brava to all of you who helped out!
Diving: Braden’s
101C 1M with great form for 5s, and his 102C 1M that was nice despite his really
weird approach. Emily’s
back jumps (all of them) showed great strength and a great sense of lines, and
her 101C 1M was smoother than normal. She
also performed her debut 401C 1M for 5-5.5s.
Jace competed Level 8 both boards,
and nailed his 201C 1M and 403C 3M for 5.5s.
He also showed mechanical readiness for some bigger dives, like 303C 3M.
Joanna nailed her 200B 1M for 7s, and
did a great, high, clean 401C 1M and a strong 403C 3M which jumped high, rotated
fast, and finished strong – both earned 6-7s. Justine did the best
reverses of her career, earning 5-6s on both 301Cs and 5.5s on her 302C 1M.
If she continues to focus on her form like that in practice, she will
soon make great strides in her diving. Matthew
showed great form on his 001D 1M, debuted his 401C 1M for 4s and nailed his 200C
1M for 5.5-6s. He also hit his 200C
3M for 5-6s. Linnet
scored a hat trick, winning all three events she entered (she won platform by
nailing her last dive while most others missed – it’s never over until
it’s over!). Her 101C 1M reached
higher than ever, and had an incredible entry, and debuted her 201C and 202C 1M.
She also got her arms to the right places on her 200C 3M, resulting in
great lines and scores of 6.5-7.5. Ashley
nearly beat veteran BJ on 1M with her debut 103B,
403C, and 202C all earning 5.5s. She
also debuted her 104C 1M and did three new dives, including her 201C and 301C
for 5s, on 3M in this meet. Amanda
was stellar on her 201A 1M, doing the best back dive in the meet!
She also nailed her 401C 3M for 5-5.5s, despite it being one of her newer
dives. She further debuted her 202C
for 5s. BJ
missed most of his voluntaries (easy dives) on 1M, but came back with his 104C
for 5s and his 403C for 6-6.5s. He
also debuted his 201B, 301B, and 105C on 3M, earning 5.5-6s on two of three of
them. His awesome 001D for 6.5-7s
put him in the lead in platform, until he balked on his 612B.
Alena showed some amazing stuff,
particularly on her 401C both boards – she went after them with confidence,
performed them crisply, and maintained form through her entries, earning 6.5s on
both. That’s the stuff diving is
made of!
So, good job to all, and I look forward to all the growth that we will see over the net month. We ARE going to host another event, the "Trick or Treat" Invite, on Saturday, October 27. It will be a little simpler to run in terms of awards, but which should basically be very much like the one we just ran in terms of logistics. More details will follow soon.
COACH JEFF AWAY 9/26 - 10/02
Convention time, and it's conveniently close to my family's places in LA, so I visit them :)
There will be no workouts from Wednesday, September 26 until Wednesday, October 3. There are rumors of the pool being completely closed for on October 4-5, but we will still have workouts, even if it means extra dryland, mechanics work, and trampoline J
We might try a workout at Kaiser, or even have a "platform" workout or two at Waimea Bay :) I'll keep you posted!
