Update -- August 30, 2009

Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,

Break is winding down!  I hope you are all as excited as I am for the upcoming season.  The time off has got me itching to coach and dive again...

One reason is that we have gotten several inquiries during break (including reports of 4 girls and 3 boys at Kaiser High who are interested), so hopefully we'll have some great new divers on the team this fall :)

A second reason is the Asia/Pacific Rim Junior Invitational, a December international event to which Hawaii has been invited.  This opportunity creates some major incentive for you all to learn some new dives, up your competitive levels, travel to a new country, and represent Hawaii internationally!

As a part of my excitement, I've started a Tropic Lightning Diving Team Facebook Page -- I know how often I am on Facebook, and I know that many of you are on as well.  This page will be a great vehicle for us to communicate even more readily :)  Go one Facebook and search for "Tropic Lightning Diving Team" and join today :)

And we will have a TLDT Day at Waimea Bay during Labor Day weekend.  Hopefully, you all have gotten word about it through email, FB or talking to me, and will get back to me about the best possible date.  I have heard from some team members who indicate Saturday, September 5th works for them...

Maui Invite Highlights

BJ -- was amazing on 1M, with a HUGE PB of 378.  he did several dives for 7+, and earned 7.5-8s on his 403B.  He also beat last year's HHSAA Bronze medalist by about 40 points :)  On 3M, he challenged Coach Jeff head-to-head, with BJ picking the dives.  he beat coach Jeff on 405C (5.5-5.5-6 to 4.5-5-5), 203B  (6-6-6.5 to 6-6-6), and 303C (6.5-6.5-7 to 6-6-6).

Coach Jeff -- took FOREVER to get into his groove...like 2 warm-up dives before the start of the 1m event.  He exacted his revenge on rical Bill Sutton from Maui, beating him 389-365.  He also had the highest scoring dive of the event, with his 403B earning 7.5-8-8 (but his viewing of the video leads him to think BJ's was better).  On 3M, he beat BJ on 403B (6.5-6.5-7 to 4.5-4.5-4.5), 105B (5.5-6-6 to 3-3.5-3.5) and 5132D (7.5-7.5-7.5 to 5.5-5.5-5.5).
