Update -- August 12, 2008
Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,
Wow, Maui was awesome! Great job to all the divers who participated and congrats on some mighty fine performances! Once again, you all performed better in competition than at practice -- always a nice occurrence, but one that can cause heart palpitations in a coach.
MAUI INVITE HIGHLIGHTS:
Tate did 1 401C 1M for 7-7.5s, and her first-ever 101C and 401C 3M in competition showed amazing form. More impressive was her 201A, which showed a lot of guts as she worked through her (perhaps irrational, but nonetheless real) fear on that dive. Emily nailed her 100A and 200A 1M for 6.5-7s, and did her best-ever 201A 1M for 6s. She also debuted her 101C 3M. Dimi made his competitive debut after diving for less than a month, and did a Junior list on 1M. Not really "getting" one of the dives (5121D), he learned a completely new dive (5211A) the morning of the meet and competed it very skillfully. On 3M, he really shined, earning 6+ scores on 5 of his 6 skills and dives. Alena showed some nice signs of life on her 201C 1M, with a great dynamic action, her 202A 1M which maintained good body shape and form throughout, and her 403C 3M, which was aggressive and controlled. Joanna was very impressive on both boards, particularly with her 5221D 1M, and her 301C both boards. She has shown readiness to move on to some bigger dives, and even learned two new ones (201B and 301B) while playing with Linnet and Kai between events. Linnet really worked her 403C 1M, earning 5-5.5s and really kicking out of it for the first time. She also had a fantastic 101B 3M for 6.5-7s which showed lines and control -- let's see those things more often now :) Ashley loves the Kihei Aquatic Center -- she had a fairly triumphant HS State Championships there this past Feb, and dived the best she has since then this past Saturday. She showed much promise on her debut 201B and 301B both boards, as well as her debut 5231D 3M, and nailed her 104C for the first time in forever, made some nice improvements on her 403C, and did her best-ever 203C, all on 1M. Kai also debuted a number of dives -- 201B and 301B both boards; 403B, 203B, 105C, and 5223D 1M, and 105B 3M. He also earned personal bests on both boards, nailing his 201B 1M for 6.5-7s, his 5223D for 5-6s (after a disastrous few in the warmups), and his 203A 3M for 6-6.5s. Coach Jeff debuted his 404C, although not very nicely. He had a few solid dives 1M, doing his 403B for 7-8s and his best-yet 203B. On 3M, he nailed his 301B for 7-7.5s and did his best-yet 5235D for 5.5-6s.
