Update -- August 1, 2007
Dear Divers and Parents,
To everyone who started this week, welcome back to school!
We are now back on the "school-year" schedule for diving, which means lessons folks are at 3:30-4:30 PM and team at 4:00-6:00 PM. The number of people in the program has continued to increase, with 3 more people expressing an interest in joining during the next session, so I may be expanding the number of days we dive to make sure our workout numbers are manageable (and that I can also dive during practices :) More info about that will come next Tuesday.
LANCE EARNS ALL-AMERICAN STATUS AT AAU NATS
Lance has an auspicious debut at the AAU National Championships, earning a place in the finals on the 3M and finishing 11th. The top twelve in each event earn All-American status and qualify for a cultural/diving exchange which, this year, happens in China. Due to the timing of school starting, I'm not sure Lance will go on the trip, but it bodes well for his chances nest year!
His best dives of the event were his 201C and 404C in the prelims, and his last-minute change in the finals, his unique 5141C.
On the 1M board, Lance had a rough day at the office, particularly on his twisters, but came alive on his final two dives, his 104C and 403C which impressed the judging panel.
Over the winter time, Lance will (hopefully) focus a lot on FORM (toe point and straight legs, or a lack thereof, really make a difference in scoring, as he will tell you!) and be ready to take the diving world by storm next year, along with a number of you newer folks :)
NEWCOMERS' WELCOMES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Ashley has completed a full high school varsity competitive list. It is currently basic, but after only three weeks, this is an awesome accomplishment!
Amanda added: 103C 1M, and is ready to start doing 002A 3M and work 202C
Matthew has been sick and not had a practice since the last update.
Alena (sorry about the incorrect spelling last time) has big-time improved her 101C with a full approach, and her 401C with full lift and press. She enjoyed learning 002C with a spot, and her 002A is just about ready to take up to 3M, and she is going to start 201A next practice.
Linnet is on the same learning curve as her sister, doing her 101C with a full approach, and her 401C with full lift and press, and really learning how to get vertical! She has also begun 002C with a spot. Her 002A is just about ready to take up to 3M, and she is going to start 201A next practice.
Joanna has learned 002A 3M, and 002C 1M independently. Next practice we should be learning her 201A and maybe 201C 1m, and start doing 002C 3m
Annika has learned her 101C and B 1M, as well as her 401C and her 002A 1M independently. We are ready now to focus on getting her ready to take that 002A up to 3M and work 201A 1M
GOOD JOB everyone, and I am excited to see all the progress
AUGUST MEET
The Keala O'Sullivan Invitational is planned for August 17-18. Details have not yet been made available, but anyone competing in it must register with USA Diving prior to the start of the events. All of you should be looking at doing the Future Champions level, which is the least expensive option at $25 for the year (USA Diving membership runs the calendar year...AAU membership runs from September to August...everyone will be required to have at least an AAU membership starting September 1, and I highly recommend USA Diving memberships as well for those of you who want to compete).
EARLY AUGUST WORKOUT SCHEDULE:
Thurs, Aug 2, 3:30 - 6:00 PM
Fri, Aug 3, 3:30 - 6:30 PM
Sat, Aug 4, 3:30-6:00 PM

ASL CORNER
Now that the deaf kids are back, and you'll see them at least once a month at meets, check out the ASL Corner, Do the lessons as you want to, ask me for help as you need.
Okies, That's all for now!
