Update -- June 14, 2009
Dear Divers, Parents, and
Supporters,
Aloha State Games Highlights
This meet, coming so close on the heels of the HDA Championships, had yet another set of really great performances.
Joanna -- There was competition in the 14-15 age group this time out, so Joanna decided to stay put this meet. She was dominant, winning both her events and showing improved voluntaries for mostly 6+, GREAT front optionals for 6.5-7s, improving tops on her inward optionals, and her best-yet 203A 3M. She also teamed up with big sis Linnet for silver in the synchro event, and served as synchro partner for Nikki (of Sunshine Diving) as well.
Linnet -- Queen on the inwards on 1M, Linnet earned mostly 7s on her 401B and 403C, and generally solid vols. She's also getting the kinds of tops on her 104C that show real confidence in the mechanics :) On 3M, she impressed with her 5211A, 403C, and 302C for 6-7s. She also teamed up with li'l sis Joanna for silver in the synchro event, and formed a second team with Ashley (see details below).
Ashley -- Great consistency on her 1M vols, earning mostly 6s and nothing less than 5.5s. Her takeoff and spinning mechanics on all her optionas were solid, and she wisely decided on a simpler twister for this meet, leading to a personal best. 3M vols were also solid for 5-6s, excepting her twister (after some major improvements over the last month, this dive suddenly took a life of its own...) Her 404C was so strong, and her top on her 105C looked good. She dusted off her 5211A to good effect, earning 5.5s. She and teammate Linnet dived synchro, doing especially well on their back takeoffs. She also teamed with KC (of Sunshine Diving), and the duo did a nice job on their final two dives.
Jay -- Newcomer Jay competed in his first-ever meet, and earned mostly 5-6s, with the exception of his 201A (from which he learned a valuable lesson in NOT using his chest to do dives). Sadly, there were no other boys his age competing, because he would have fared well against last year's ASG boys! He is now on a doctor-ordered two-month sabbatical, but we look forward to his return and his debut on the interscholastic scene.
BJ -- Dived great on 1M, really stepping it up on his 103B, 201B, 5211A, 105C, 203C, and 5132D, each of which were the best scores he has yet earned on them, and earning a PB of 349.95. On 3M, he had some wonderful dives as well, showing he owns 5211A and getting good tops on his105B and 403B. He paired with Spencer (of Sunshine Diving) for synchro, and threw an atypical-for-him dive -- 403C -- and earned 6.5s.
Coach Jeff -- decided to go for big DD on 3M throwing his 5136D and 305C, with mixed results. The triple twister went pretty well, for 5.5s, while the gainer tanked for 3.5s. He also hit his 201B and 301B for all 7+, which is very exciting for him (even if he later bombed his 201B on 1M :/). On 1M, he was a bit off on the vols, but dived solidly on optionals. His Maui nemesis, Bill, put in a great effort, especially on his final dive, to eke out a win. The friendly rivals teamed up to show the young'uns how to synchro :)Upcoming Events

ASL CORNER
Recently reinstated, as Coach Jeff's foster son, and TLDT diver, is deaf and will be a presence at many workouts and meets, this reference is here so you all can learn to communicate with our deaf community member: check out the ASL Corner, do the lessons as you want to, ask me for help as you need.
Okies, That's all for now!
Jeff
