Update -- May 25, 2009
Dear Divers, Parents, and
Supporters,
HDA Championships Highlights
Wow! We truly ARE a solar-powered team. We had pretty consistently great performances throughout the long day (3 events is pretty tough in a 7 hour period)! We were tiny this year (smallest contingent we've had at a meet in about three years :/), but we were strong! We went earned 10 gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, saw Emily, Tate, Cristin, BJ, and Joanna all debut new dives and compete at higher levels than ever before (Ashley and Coach Jeff slacked and stayed at the same competitive level with no new dives -- we're saving it up for the Aloha State Games hehe).
Tate -- debuted her 102C 1M for 5s and made really good corrections on many of her dives en route to two bronze medals, including her first-ever competition at the FC Level 5. She also earned bronze on 3M in Level 3, with an amazing 200A and an incredibly smooth 002A.
Emily -- debuted her 402C 1M, which she needed to qualify for the Junior Level in her new 10-11 Age Group. She also nailed her 202C for 5.5-6s. She also overcame fears of her 401C from earlier in the week to nail that dive in the meet for 5.5-6s.
Joanna -- WOW! When she learned that she had no competition in her age group, she stepped it up and learned a new dive on 3M so she could compete with the 16-18s. She not only hit that dive for 6s, but she won the event (with her best-ever 5231D, 404C, and 105Cs). She then dusted off her 1M 203C so she could join the 16-18s on 1M as well, and won that event, too, doing her best-ever 201B and 403C. She then debuted (as a 14-15) her Junior Platform list.
Ashley -- stepped it UP in the meet (it is great to see her consistently diving UP in competitions...now when she raises her intensity and focus in practice, her competitions will be incredible!). Her 201B 3M was amazing, and she did her best-in-two-weeks 105C and 203A on the high board as well. She was awesome on 1M optionals, hitting her 403C for 6.5s and her 104C and 203C for 6s. She dived well in the platform event as well, with a solid 101B, awesome 401B and 201C, and an incredible 403C (even if she didn;t get to warm it up).
Cristin -- made her 3M FC level 8 debute, and hit her first 7 dives about the best she has ever done, earning mostly 6s. In the 16-18 Junior 1M event, she opened with a beautiful 401B, made a great correction on her 103B, did a very smooth 203C, and equaled her best-ever 403C. She finished 4th in a close contest with lots of good diving.
BJ -- the most solar-powered of anyone on the team, BJ really enjoyed the weather. His very good effort over the last two weeks paid off handsomely, as he debuted his 16-18 Junior 3M list with his newly-learned 303C (which he nailed for 5.5-6s). He also performed a superb 301B 3M for 7-7.5s, and his best-ever 105B for 6.5s. On 1M, he hit his 201B for 6s, his 105C for 6.5s, his 303C for 6-6.5s, his 5132D for 5s and his 403B for 6.5-7s en route to a victory over HS State Champions Spencer Madanay...it could prove an interesting competitive pairing this coming year! BJ also did a solid job on platform, impressing with his 01B and 002A, as well as the form on his 5132D.
Coach Jeff -- still unable to break his goal of 400 points on 3M, he nonetheless earned at least one 7 on 8/9 dives on 3M. Especially noteworthy were his 5134D for 7.5s, his 405C for 6s, and his 105B for 7.5-8s. On the 1M, he enjoyed doing a rarely performed flying dive (113B) for 7s, and hitting his 301A and 401A for 7.5s-8.5s. He performed his best-in-a-long-time 105C for 7s and 5134D for 6-6.5s. Best of all, he is successfully battling his nasty crow-hop habit. He was pretty much out of it by the time Platform happened, and he only really hit one dive, his 403B 5M for 6.5s.Upcoming Events

ASL CORNER
Recently reinstated, as Coach Jeff's foster son, and TLDT diver, is deaf and will be a presence at many workouts and meets, this reference is here so you all can learn to communicate with our deaf community member: check out the ASL Corner, do the lessons as you want to, ask me for help as you need.
Okies, That's all for now!
Jeff
