Update -- April 4, 2007
Dear Divers and Parents,
Happy April! I hope you all enjoyed your Spring Breaks. I know I did :) And some more good news...the deaf divers are starting back up, although they will be doing the Monday workouts at Kaiser High, not the Tuesday-Thursday workouts at Schofield.
And speaking of the deaf divers, I want to thank Lance and Justine's dad, Lew, for connecting his unit up with the Hawaii Center for the Deaf and Blind for an ongoing relationship. He brought his men and women to campus just before Spring Break and helped the students beautify the campus...and it's never looked better! It's interesting how life works out, huh? :)
Back to diving...It's too bad that the meet that was scheduled for March 18 didn't pan out, but we now have two for-sure meets on the schedule, and I am ready to work out hard over the next month in preparation for them.
Coming up first is USA Diving's first Hawaii Diving Association Championship meet since I've been here! It will happen on Sunday, May 6, at the University of Hawaii. And then we have about a month to prepare for the Aloha State Games on June 3. The summer schedule should be fairly busy with at least one meet per month, so we are very excited to finally gear up for things on that level.
The Association Championship is being sanctioned right now, and I will post more information as soon as the Sunshine Diving sends it out.
CONGRATS TO OUR FRIENDS AT SUNSHINE DIVING ON QUALIFYING FOR THE USA DIVING SPRING WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to Nikki, who qualified in the 11 & U girls' 1M and 3M and Joey, who qualified in the 11 & U boys' 1M. Maria placed 7th in the girls' 14-15 1M to be an alternate.
Sunshine's success continues Hawaii's foray into the junior national diving scene (with Aleia of our team having been the first to make it in many decades in 2005 and 2006), and I am very excited by this! Let's work hard to try to join them next year :)
