Update -- March 22, 2008
Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,
Happy Spring Equinox! We have left the winter months behind (although yesterday's temperature at the pool would not have indicated so!) and are ready to tackle the Spring and Summer Seasons.
Our first order of business is the Tropic Lightning Spring Invitational. It will be held Saturday, April 12, starting at 9 AM for warmups. This is a TEAM EFFORT, meaning all divers should be participating, and all families helping with the scoring table. This could be out biggest meet yet -- I know that UH Sunshine will be coming, and hopefully we'll see Dare to Dream and Sport Basics here as well.
We will do an intra-squad meet and table-help review on Saturday, April 5th at the afternoon practice.
I am awaiting an electronic version of the Army's "Hold Harmless" form and will email all the entry forms and waivers as soon I get those.
Recent Accomplishments:
Amanda's 301C is getting better and better, and she recently re-learned her 202C -- we are on the way to getting a Junior list on the 1M! Alena has done some really nice 5121Ds and is improving her 201C actions. Linnet has improved her 201C, 301C, 5221D, 401B and 403C actions and will be learning some new dives soon. Joanna learned 5231D 3M, but babied it a little too much, as seems to be her tendency on new dives :( and is now in possession of a complete Junior 3M list! Cristin is smoothing out her approach and entry mechanics, and getting ready to learn twisting somersaults. Ashley is relearning her basic twisters in an effort to become a more all-around diver for the summer. BJ qualified for the USA Diving Spring Junior West National Championships on both 1M and 3M, and now we are working on improving some of his dives and learning some better ones for the Nationals. Samantha has a solid 401B now, and tried a 103C (but came out a little early...). Matthew has gotten back into the water. Tate is doing back jumps and front lineups on 3M independently. Emily is staying square on her back lineup 1M and getting ready to be independent on it 3M again soon.
Alumna recent Accomplishments: Aleia qualified for her first NCAA National Championships, qualified for the consol finals and placed 3rd. She nailed her 405B for 7s, her 205B for 7.5s, and her 105B for 7s, earning Honorable Mention All-American status.
Spring Scheduling
Looks like we have some High School divers wanting to continue with club, so I will continue to offer Monday and Friday workouts at Kaiser High. During the high school girls' water polo season, workouts will run from 5-6:30 PM; once the polo season is pau, we will go from 3-5 PM. And we will continue T-Th-Sa throughout the Spring as well, with possible Sundays depending on request/demand.
Upcoming
Coach Jeff has been honored to be selected as a judge for the Men's NCAA Division I Diving Championships in Seattle. He leaves on Monday, March 24 at 9 PM and won't return until Sunday, March 30. There WILL be a workout on Sunday, though! Coach Jeff is a wonk!
The USA Diving Spring Junior West National Championships are April 25-27 in Columbia Missouri -- wish BJ good luck!
May will see the HDA Championships at UH...
June has the Aloha State Games, the Regional Championships (in Tucson, AZ, or in Santa Clara, CA), the Keo Nakama Invitational, and the Olympic Trials in Indianapolis (hopefully for Aleia, and maybe coach Jeff as a judge).
July has the Junior Zone E Championships in Los Angeles.
