Update -- March 1, 2008

Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,

March is traditionally the "In Like a Lion" month, except in Hawaii :) we have completed the highs chool season, and are now both in the home-stretch for the Spring club season (Regionals this weekend, Nationals in late April) and in the beginning of the leadup into the Summer club season.  See details later in the letter.

Recent Accomplishments:

Amanda has gotten her 402C!  Linnet has improved her 5121D, 5221D, and 402C to the degree she is ready to take them to the next level!  Joanna learned 403B and 5221D 3M and is now in possession of a complete Junior 3M list!  BJ relearned his 405C and decided to learn 203B instead of 203A on 3M, and is looking good going into Regionals!  Ashley and Kai competed their 303Cs in their HS State Championships, and each finished in 4th place!  Beau did his best-ever 202C, 403C, and 104C, and Mark his best-ever 202C, 302C and 5122D in the HS State Champs!  Tate learned 200A 3M and 001D 1M independently!

High School Diving

High School Season is PAU!  And our high school athletes Ashley, Cristin, Kai, Beau, and Mark sent it out with a bang.  All the athletes competed in the finals, with Ashley and Kai boasting 4th place finishes and earning points for their team's scores.

Highlights:

Ashley's debut 303C for 5.5s and her 5211A, which earned season high 5.5s, leading to a PB of 316 and change.

Cristin's consistent voluntaries and excellent 202C and 302C for 5.5-6s which led this "Last-Chance" survivor into the finals for 7th place.

Kai's 401B for 7s, 403C for 6s, and 203C for 5.5-6s.  He also came back from a disappointing first day's performance to step it up on Day 2 and move up to 4th.

Beau's 402C, 104C, and 202C for 6s, and his 201A and 301A for 5-5.5s.  He ran into some twister issues on Day 2, and had to settle for a good learning experience and a great overall season.

Mark -- made the most of his States experience, and earned 5+s on his 202C and 302C, and competed his best-yet 5122D.

Non-Diving Trip highlights:  Fun Factory, where we won tickets and got Looney Tunes tattoos (which we forgot to use during the meet...); Whale-watching tour (two solid hours of non-stop cetacean action); Body surfing (or running on the beach) at Makena State Park; Cliff diving at Kaanapali's Black Rock (and the whirlpool we had to swim through to get back to shore).

Upcoming

Coach Jeff, BJ, Ashley, and Kai head to Portland on Thursday this week to participate in the Region 10 Championships.  You can watch for the results on www.divemeets.com (go to current meets and click on the "USA Diving Spring Region 10 Championships").

During Spring Break, Coach Jeff has been honored to be selected as a jidge for the Men's NCAA Division I Diving Championships in Seattle.

Tropic Lightning will host an Invitational on April 12, so let's start getting ready for that! :)
