Update -- February 7, 2008

Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,

Sorry this update is a little late...We had some issues trying to get the recent ILH Intermediate and JV Championships results finalized, and I was waiting for that to get done (not a particularly good reason, but that's what happened :)

Recent Accomplishments:

Amanda and Linnet have gotten their reverse dives independently!!  Joanna learned 5223D!  Alena did the best 5121Ds she ever has last week!  Ashley has learned her 105C and 203A 3M to complete her Junior list on both boards!  Samantha toughed it out and learned 401C 3M despite her fears!

Tate, Emily, Charles, and Chase have learned a HUGE number of tumbling/mat skills, and they looked great the few times we decided to get in the water during the breaks in the torrents.

February 2 (OIA East/West Champ's and ILH Intermediate/JV Champ's) Meet Highlights

Congratulations once again to Kai, Beau, Mark, Ashley and Khoral for their performances in their respective meets this weekend.    Kai won his first OIA East crown, and earned another state qualifying score while throwing a new dive -- 5223D.  Beau earned his first State qualifying score with a personal best and a list topped off with a 104C for 5.5-6s.  Mark also earned a personal best, scoring over 20 points higher than any previous meet yet and breaking 200 for the first time!  Ashley Won her first, and only JV Championship title (she will compete Varsity tomorrow, and there's no going back...).  She started off a little shaky, but gained momentum with each dive, and actually hit her final two high DD dives to win by 12 points.  Khoral came off a week of little training to do the best 100A she has in a while, and to hit her 402C the best she ever has.  She finished 6th in a pretty close contest.

February 7-8 Meets -- OIA and ILH Championships

Kai won his second OIA title earlier today while debuting 2 new dives (203C and 5231D) and nearly equaling his PB.  Beau earned another PB and his second State Qualifying score to take the silver, while Mark debuted his new 104C, which gives him enough difficulty for states, and a PB that was 27 points higher than his previous best from last weekend (and which is pretty close to the consideration score for states).

Tomorrow sees Ashley make her official Varsity debut at the ILH Championships at Kamehameha Schools at 5 PM.

TLDT 2008 Competitive Schedule

We are set for the Portland Region 10 Meet, March 8-9.  Those who have expressed interest in going have been given all the details, and if anyone else decides they want to go, please contact me ASAP!

We will attend the Summer Regionals in either  Tucson, AZ on June 13-15 or Santa Clara, CA, June 20-22 (already leaning toward the latter date, so we have time to do some double workouts after school lets out).  Those who place in the top 15 will move on the the Zone Championships in Los Angeles, CA, July 10-13 and those who place in the top 12 at the Zones will move on to Nationals in Rockville, MD, August 12-15.

For a look at the complete schedule for 2008, please see the HDA Calendar of Events.

Oh, and by the way, in order to be eligible to go to the Regional level, TLDT Divers must have a complete Junior List in the events they plan to compete.  For the 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18 age groups, this includes doing optional dives that have an average degree of difficulty of 2.0 or higher, which basically translates to front doubles, 1 1/2s in every other direction, and twisters with at least 1 1/2 somersaults or 1 1/2 twists.  So, if you are interested in getting to this level, let's take advantage of all the trampoline and dryland work we will do over the next few months to get us ready!  New Info:  13U boys and girls and 14-15 girls need only 3 optionals,  14-15 boys and 16-18 girls need 4 optionals, and 16-18 Boys need 5 optionals.
