Update -- December 31, 2007

Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,

Happy New Year!

I just got back from Southern California, where I visited with family and friends and enjoyed warmer weather than we are having here today :(  Hopefully, the wind and the rain will go away soon!  And a big thank you to all who baked cookies and pound cakes, and who provided me with healthy snacks, towels, baking goods and pans with which to celebrate the holidays :)  Now to work off all that holiday weight :/

OK, as we enter 2008, let's be prepared for some really great dryland conditioning, stretching, tumbling, and trampoline workouts.  I will have the next 2 months planned out and available for you to look at online by the end of this weekend, and I guarantee that we will be ready to be in the water and performing at higher levels than ever come March.  Because High School Season still exists, we still will be having a "get in the water" optional component during workouts, but  there will also be a full-service dryland program going on throughout January and February as well.

And we will start on Wednesday, January 2 at the regular time (I was planning to start tomorrow, but with the Kaiser High workout from 10 AM to Noon, realized that there is little chance to get cleaned up at Kaiser, drive out to Schofield, get a solid workout in, and drive home before the Sugar Bowl, which kicks off at 3:30 PM).

USA Diving Registration

Remember, it is time to re-register for USA Diving, if you have not already.  Unfortunately, USA Diving's website does not reflect the renewals who have already paid, signed waivers, and all from my end (I think you can find this information when you log on yourselves...). Also remember that there are now the  "Competitive Blue" and "Competitive Gold" membership categories.  Here's a link to let you read more about them:  usadiving.org news.  Please register as a Competitive Blue or Competitive Gold athlete for 2008 ASAP (including faxing in the required waiver -- or doing the electronic waiver that now seems to be in place) -- you will not be allowed to dive in the 2008 season until you do.   Remember, the Competitive Blue price is only $20 for the whole year, and allows you to compete on the Junior level in Invitationals and Association meets!  Competitive Gold price is $75 and allows you to compete on the Regional, Zone, and National level to which you qualify.  So please get on this right away!  New members to the club who have not yet done so also need to register to be covered by insurance, so please review the instructions on "How to Join USA Diving" and get to this right away!

TLDT Competitive Schedule for 2008

It looks as if we are not going to attend the Keala O'Sullivan/Dare to Dream Invitationals that are coming up this weekend (Sunday, January 6).   I still have not gotten specific information I had requested so as to make a decision about whether we would be attending, and the hosts have not yet told me what the entry fee would be.  And given that we have had little to no training over the past two weeks, we probably will not feel overly ready for it.  Thus, we will have no competitions until March 8-9, except for any in-house stuffs we decide to do.

We will attend the Spring Region 9 Championships in Scottsdale, AZ, April 5-6 and those who finish in the top 6 in any event will attend the West Championships in Columbia MO, April 25-27.

We will attend the Summer Regionals in either  Tucson, AZ on June 13-15 or Santa Clara, CA, June 20-22 (depends on affordability and how we are feeling with school having just gotten out :)  Those who place in the top 15 will move on the the Zone Championships in Los Angeles, CA, July 10-13 and those who place in the top 12 at the Zones will move on to Nationals in Rockville, MD, August 12-15.

For a look at the complete schedule for 2008, please see the HDA Calendar of Events.

Oh, and by the way, in order to be eligible to go to the Regional level, TLDT Divers must have a complete Junior List in the events they plan to compete.  For the 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18 age groups, this includes doing optional dives that have an average degree of difficulty of 2.0 or higher, which basically translates to front doubles, 1 1/2s in every other direction, and twisters with at least 1 1/2 somersaults or 1 1/2 twists.  So, if you are interested in getting to this level, let's take advantage of all the trampoline and dryland work we will do over the next few months to get us ready!

High School Diving:

The Kalani Invitational is the first meet of our season, and will happen this Saturday, January 5, at Kaiser High School.  The warm-ups will begin at 8 AM, and the meet no later than 10 AM, or as soon as all the competitors feel appropriately warmed up.  Later that afternoon at 2 PM (warmups at 1 PM) will be an ILH Intermediate and JV event at Iolani School.  You are welcome to come see these events and support our team members who are in them (and maybe gain some table help experience :)  Also, I will probably run a short workout after the competition is completed at Kaiser (say, from 11 AM to about 12:15 PM).

The following weekend sees an ILH meet at Kamehameha Schools at 2 PM (warmup probably as early as 12 PM -- details to come), but the OIA has the week off.

For the most up-to-date High School Season Info, please see the High School Diving Section.
