Update -- November 11, 2007
Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,
High School Season is upon us, as are the colder fall/winter months. This time of year sees a bit of change in our workout focus and structure -- more on that later.
We also have one more meet this year, December 15th's HDA Winter Championships (even though they are happening before the actual start of winter, which is the winter solstice, typically December 20 or 21st). The meet will be held at the UH-Manoa Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center, which is both HEATED and has a jacuzzi :)
I encourage everyone to check the USA Diving website and see if the new "Competitive Blue" and "Competitive Gold" categories that I explained in my Convention Report and my November 5 Update Letter are up and running yet, and to register for the upcoming year if they are. Competitive Blue is a much cheaper alternative, but limits the competitions you can compete in (but you can upgrade later), while Competitive Gold allows you to compete in every meet up to the National Championships. By registering this way, divers who already have the needed dives can compete in the Junior events instead of the Future Champions ones at the HDA Winter Championships.
Welcomes:
To the Kaiser High Diving Team -- Beau, Mark, and returning State Medalist Kai (so far -- we may have some more joining!) and to the St. Andrew's Priory Team (the lone wolf Coral, who comes to us from Canada and who already has some diving experience!
Also welcome to Tate, a 3:30 workout member who has just joined after diving with another local team for a while.
To Jace and Braden, who are taking some time off during the busy holiday season (and cold winter months :)
High School Diving:
I am investigating the possibilities for home-schoolers to participate in interscholastic competitions. The initial response I got from the OIA indicated that home schoolers are not allowed to participate in OIA sports programs, and a report from a private school oriented home schooler suggests the ILH has a similar policy. However, the statute the OIA referred to does not make it clear to me that home-schoolers are barred from participation, so I have made an inquiry to the State School Board about the matter.
So, hopefully this will be resolved in favor of the home-schoolers, but it is possible that it will not be. Just want you to be prepared!
The first ILH pre-season meet will happen December 8 at Punahou School at 1 PM. I will give more information after the ILH pre-season meeting on November 28th.
November Changes:
Please remember that the November Practice Schedule will change significantly. As the high school season starts, we are moving Monday and Friday practices to Kaiser High School, and may add a Sunday Workout at Schofield, depending on demand. we also may put increased emphasis on dryland and trampoline training, particularly for the younger divers.
