Update -- November 5, 2007

Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,

Congrats on our high-quality Trick or Treat Invite.  The diving keeps getting better, the tables ran smoothly, and it was just an overall success J

Major thanks to the parents who ran the table so independently and who spearheaded the sheet-organizing and the results/ribbons.  Major thanks also to all the parents who saw some needs and took it upon themselves to remedy them:  some got buckets and filled them with water, using them to keep the pop-up shade structures in place, some got a box in which to keep the candy and replenished diminishing supplies as the divers were redeeming their score-rewards, and some stayed around and helped “tear-down” after everything was all done.  It was a complete team effort, and it was a smashing success!  We have a break now, until April, when the pool temperature will once again be warm, before we will host another meet.

I also got a nice thank you letter from the UH Sunshine Diving Club, which sang your praises not only for a well-run meet, but also for sharing the ono grinds J

“Trick or Treat” Diving Highlights:

Braden – 200A 3M, a strong contender for the boys’ “Best Skill” award and 101C 3M, which showed good control and form

Emily – 100A, 200A, 3M, 101C 1M, each of which earned 6-6.5s.  The 101C was one of the best she’s done to date – high smooth, clean!

Jace – 201C both boards for 6s and better, 202C 3M for 6-6.5, 403C 3M for 5s, 101C and 401C 1M for 5.5s and 6s (he also earned a big compliment for the Sunshine coach about how much he’s improved!)

Matthew – 100C 1M for 5-5.5s, 101C 1M and 201A 1M for 5s.  I was especially impressed with the latter two, since they had such good form in the air and maintained tight legs and toes through the entries.

Joanna – competed several new dives (301C, 302C, 403C, 5122D) and did some others (5221D 1M, 402C 1M, 103B 3M, 403C 3M) very strongly.  She also had great tight knees/straight legs on one of her jumps from platform.

Justine – 201C 1M for 7s, which earned her the high point award; 202C 1M which was high and fast and pretty relaxed for the entry line; 301C 3M, which jumped high and held the entry line.

Linnet – 001D 5M, 200C 5M, 001C 5M, 100A 5M – I see a budding platform diver here!  She also did a fantastic 402C 1M in warm-ups – that action is coming along J

Amanda – pretty much everything!  She put together two great lists J  Particularly great:  201A 1M, high and controlled for 6.5s; 103C 1M, a little slow, but perfectly controlled for 5.5s; both 401s on 3M for 5.5-6s

Alena – 401C 1M for 6.5s; 5121D 1M, nicely controlled for 5s; 202C 1M, high and strong, as well as smoothly executed, for 6-6.5s; 001C 3M, which stretched through the water fully for 6.5s

BJ – doing 7 NEW dives: 203C 1M, 104B 1M, 405C 3M, 403B 3M, 202A 3M, 105B 3M and 103B 5M (none quite as successfully as we might want, but he did ‘em!)…612B 5M looks much improved as he held his armstand longer and showed improved body lines on start and finish.

I still owe the platform divers some more candy (I cannot believe that, overall, the 19 competitors earned over 1150 pieces of candy, but they did!  Linnet’s incredible platform event netted her 100 pieces for just 6 dives!).  I will bring the candy to workout on Tuesday!  I will even give out some extra to anyone who comes to workout in costume J

Next Meet:

The next scheduled meet is the Hawaii Diving Association Winter Championships, tentatively schedules for Saturday, December 15, at UH.  The pool there is heated J, and there will be 1M, 3M, and platform events (Coach Jeff will train for this one J).

I would like to suggest that all TLDT divers register for their 2008 USA Diving memberships before this meet, provided that the new classes of membership are in place.  The reason for this is that divers will become eligible to be athlete reps for the club and for the Hawaii Diving Association once they have competed a list on the Junior level, and this provides that opportunity (your current Future Champions membership does not).   The new classes of membership are “Competitive Blue” for those who know they only want to compete locally, and “Competitive Gold” for those who know they want the eligibility to compete in events up to the national level.

November Changes:

Please remember that the November Practice Schedule will change significantly.  As the high school season starts, we are moving Monday and Friday practices to Kaiser High School, and may add a Sunday Workout at Schofield, depending on demand.  Also please note that I put the wrong weekend for the Thanksgiving Break – note the corrected schedule below).
