Update -- October 21, 2007
Dear Divers, Families, and Supporters,
Yikes! Almost a month since the last update (sorry). Obviously, I was gone for a week for the USA Diving Convention, so that excuses the first week's non-update. The next week I was sick-as-a-dog and just wasn't thinking about it (this brings us to the week of Oct 9). I sent something out about the upcoming Trick or Treat meet to you all via email, but still did not do an update that week, and when I finally DID get to an update on October 14, the server wouldn't let me post. But, even though I planned to try again the morning of the 15th or contact the host to see what the problem was, I forgot once again (I think my illness killed off a number of my few remaining brain cells), and the update was left sitting in internet purgatory for the last week. Enough of my sorry excuses!
Now things are up and running again, and I feel fully recovered from my illness (and hopefully, have re-generated some brain cells, even though that is apparently biologically impossible).
What's Happened Since September 25:
USA Diving Convention I attended the USA Diving Annual Meeting and have a full report. You can read it by following this link: 2007 USA Diving Convention Report. Basic highlights refer to changes that affect you all -- fee structures for membership, rules changes. The report covers it :)
Visit with Family: I took a few extra days to visit with my family while in the LA area. I met my 2 week old nephew, Kahlil, and spent some quality time with my parents, sister, brother-in-law, and nephews.
Illness: Caught some nasty bug while on the mainland and dealt with that for the last few weeks (main reason you haven't seen me in the water much lately! I plan to get in again starting tomorrow!).
Hawaii Diving Association By-Laws: Worked with two other HDA members to review and revise our local diving association's by-laws. We will present our review at the upcoming HDA Annual Meeting on Friday, October 26, when the membership will vote to accept or reject our suggested changes.
High School Diving: Have been working to get clarification of times and dates for the High School Diving Season, along with information about how the public and private schools might be running their meets together this year. I will post all the information as I get it (I am posting the Interscholastic League of Honolulu schedule right now, and will add the Oahu Interscholastic Association schedule when I get it. Check out the High School Diving Section.
Trick or Treat Invite: Have gotten approval and sanctioning for our next meet, October 27th's Trick or Treat Invite. It will basically be run like our last meet, but with fewer categories for results, so it will be easier to get the awards done. Parents, families, and friends, please be ready to help out at the table! And we can do a smaller scale Lunch afterward (I am guessing half the amount of stuff we did last time will work -- by Wednesday, I'll send out a list of things to bring on Saturday). Check out the Trick or Treat Invite for more info.
New Stuff Learned: we've had a lot of learning going on this month! BJ tops the list with his 105C 1M, 105B 3M, 202A both boards, 5221D 1M, and 405C 3M. Joanna chimed in with her 104C 1M, 202A 3M, 301C 1M, 403C 1M, and 5122D 1M. Ashley has done her 301A 1M, 202A 3M, and 302C 3M, as well as her 002D 5M. Linnet has learned her 002C 3M, 103C 1M, 202A 1M, 301C (with spot) 1M, and 5122D 1M. Amanda has gotten her 002C 3M, 202A 1M, 301C (with spot) 1M, and 402C 1M. Jace did his 403C 1M. Braden has done his 102B 1M and 5121D 1M. Emily moved her 101 from C to B on 1M, and is doing 101C 3M with a spot. Alena moved her 201A to C on 1M, and has done 5122D 1M. Matthew learned 001B (sitting) 3M, 002D(with spot) 3M, and 102C 1M. Justine has been battling back from a shoulder injury earlier this month, and is working on techniques to help prevent shoulder injury in the future as well as get her dives more consistent. Samantha just battled back from a broken toe and is getting into the swing of things again. Private Lessons student Alison has also joined the T-Th 3:30 group, and is doing some really solid jumps on her own, and is getting the hang of head-first stuff as well.
HAWAII DIVING ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING
The HDA is having its annual meeting on Friday, October 26 at 7 PM at the UH Manoa campus. I encourage all who are interested to attend and see the inner workings of our sport. Very soon, many of you will be eligible to be Athlete Representatives for the club, and this will help you get an idea if such is something you would like to do. Please see the HDA Meeting Notice for more information.

CHANGE IN SCHEDULE DUE TO HIGH SCHOOL SEASON
Due to the High School Season starting, and my commitments with Kaiser High, there will be a change in our workout schedule. This effectively means I will be having workouts 6 days a week, but not all at Schofield. Workouts from November through February will basically be T, Th, Sa, Su at Schofield, and M, F, Sa at Kaiser High. Everyone is welcome to come to either practice, but most of you will find the Kaiser Schedule impossible on weekdays. Notice the new workout day on Sunday to help mitigate our not having Mondays and Fridays any more. Additionally, due to what seem to be major shifts in scheduling, Tuesdays and Thursdays are much more open, so those of you who had been coming Mondays and Fridays can use Tuesdays and Thursdays to help. Also, any of you who can get to Kaiser High School by 3 PM on Mondays and Fridays can use those workouts to help you with the scheduling. Enough said! Here's November:
