Update -- January  31, 2010

Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,

January saw the bulk of the competitive season, bu now we welcome February, the month that sees the HHSAA Championships, and lots of our divers will be in them :).  February also sees us return to Schofield on a more permanent basis -- be sure to check out the schedule at the end of the update letter.

High School Scene

ILH -- Maria, Ashley, Cristin, and Allia ended up 2-3-4-5 at the ILH Championships, and each qualified for the HHSAA Championships.  Maria has added some pike optionals to her list, giving her enough DD to qualify for All-American Consideration.  She may also be able to use those divers to her advantage at States.  Ashley has worked her list to include some harder and some easier dives that put her mind at ease competiing, and it seems to be paying off -- her debut 204C went 5-5.5 and her 302C went 5.5s, giving her one of her better point totals in a long time.  Cristin capped off a great confidence-building week by diving solidly and without any misadventures on her Bs and Gs, which have plagued her too often this season.  she also is showing much greater control with her twisters.  Allia, who only joins us at the meets themselves, performed a really nice 104C and a great 202A en route to her first ILH medal.

Our OIA divers (BJ, Hunter, Tyler, and Demetrius) have been diving up a storm as well.  They just finished their OIA East Championships, at which Hunter qualified for States, BJ demolished a record older than he is, and Tyler and Demetrius showed they can be States-level divers if they get enough difficulty.   BJ also had a solid showing worthy of All-American consideration.  The OIA Championships are this coming Saturday, February 6, at the Central Oahu Regional Park at 1 PM.  Please come support your teammates, and then we can all make a late-afternoon of it at the new Laser tag place at Dole Cannery :)

TLDT Alumna and perhaps future team member Aleia Monden is headed to Columbus, Ohio this week to participate in the USA Winter Nationals, a meet that might garner her a chance to compete internationally.  wish her luck as well!

Upcoming Events:

We will be hosting a "Spring into Action" meet March 13 to get us geared up for the competitive club season.  This gives everyone a WHOLE MONTH to get comfy again with those higher boards :)  Maui is looking to host a meet in April, so get ready for that one, and the HDA Championships will be in May.  Regionals are June 18-20 at UCLA (Go Bruins!) and Zones are in Pasadena at my former haunt, the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center -- to help with cost issues, I will look into setting up camp situations at either Rose Bowl or USC and then we can all stay from June 18th through July 3rd and not have to make two trips...Will keep y'all posted.  Hope you are excited to make this summer a great one for us all!
