Update -- January 28, 2008
Dear Divers, Parents, and Supporters,
Not much to report this week...Weirdo weather, so we will continue to do our dryland-for-those-for-whom-it-works and water-workout-for-high-schoolers/ die-hard-polar-bears :)
Dryland Stuffs
Thank you to those of you coming prepared with athletic shoes. We may be doing some more plyometric jumping during upcoming workouts, and I really want everyone's joints safe, so continue to bring them :) Remember, if ya no have, ya no participate :(
January 26 (Serai Invitaitional) Meet Highlights
Congratulations to Kai, Beau, Mark, Ashley and Khoral for their performances in the Serai Invitational. each one of them did something noteworthy. Kai earned his first 8 1/2 (on his 103B) and nailed his 104C for 6s, scored a personal best 305+ on his list (breaking 300 for the first time), and was within ten points of last year's State silver medalist. Beau debuted two new dives, his 104C and his 5223D -- once he smooths out the rough edges, he will get his state qualifying score! Mark also debuted two new dives, his 403C and his 202A, both of which were among his top scoring dives! Ashley threw a new 401A, high and strong and clean, but because she bent a bit at the waist, she earned maximum scores of 4 from the judges. She also did a greatly improved 403B and earned scores up to 5.5! Khoral debuted her 103C and her 5121D this weekend, as she competed Intermediate, but dived exhibition for JV. She was within a point of the silver!
February 2 Meets
The interscholastic crowd has its next meets this coming Saturday at Kaiser (10 AM) and at Iolani (2:30 PM). Warmups are at 12:30 PM, start time is 2:30 PM. The OIA crowd has its East and West Championship meets, occurring simultaneously, as there is only one West diver. Kai will debut his 203C, Beau will be going for his qualifying score, and Mark might be debuting his 104C. For the ILH-ers, this weekend culminates the Intermediate and JV seasons. This is Khoral's last competition of the scholastic season, and she might move up to JV (and we're learning the 301C this week, regardless!). Ashley will compete in her first, and last, JV Championship meet, and we are strategizing for BIG points :)

TLDT 2008 Competitive Schedule
Seems that we may have a smaller contingent of TLDT Team members going to Spring Regionals than I had hoped...I will communicate individually with everyone regarding their plans for this early part of the season so we can make best strategic plans regarding the Tucson Regionals in April, or possibly going to Portland, Oregon in early March. I looked at flights and hotels (OK, well, Motel 6 -- I am pake) as well as rental car prices, and it seems both are equally affordable (flights around $380-400 taxes included, cars around $15 per day with taxes a bit more in AZ, Motel 6 rooms for about $42 per night). We'll discuss further, though I am strongly leaning toward the March meet, since it will capitalize on our High Schoolers' end of season peaking.
We will attend the Summer Regionals in either Tucson, AZ on June 13-15 or Santa Clara, CA, June 20-22 (already leaning toward the latter date, so we have time to do some double workouts after school lets out). Those who place in the top 15 will move on the the Zone Championships in Los Angeles, CA, July 10-13 and those who place in the top 12 at the Zones will move on to Nationals in Rockville, MD, August 12-15.
For a look at the complete schedule for 2008, please see the HDA Calendar of Events.
Oh, and by the way, in order to be eligible to go to the Regional level, TLDT Divers must have a complete Junior List in the events they plan to compete. For the 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18 age groups, this includes doing optional dives that have an average degree of difficulty of 2.0 or higher, which basically translates to front doubles, 1 1/2s in every other direction, and twisters with at least 1 1/2 somersaults or 1 1/2 twists. So, if you are interested in getting to this level, let's take advantage of all the trampoline and dryland work we will do over the next few months to get us ready! New Info: 13U boys and girls and 14-15 girls need only 3 optionals, 14-15 boys and 16-18 girls need 4 optionals.
