1^st Annual Maui Invitational Diving Meet

Hello Hawaii Diving Coaches,

I want to invite you and your divers the 1^st Annual Maui Invitational Diving Meet.  The competition will be held on August 9^th, 2008 at the Kihei Aquatic Center, Maui Hawaii.  The meet is open to Hawaii residents who are  USA Diving registered Athletes.  The meet is sanctioned by the Hawaii Diving Association of USA Diving, which provides liability insurance. The Junior events and the Open group A events will follow USA Diving rules.  The Novice and Open group B will follow a special format (see below). The novice events are opened to all ages.

Eligibility: The Maui Invitational is open to all Hawaii residents who are  USA Diving registered Athletes.

Awards: Medals for places 1-3

Fees: $10.00 per event. Make checks payable to Maui Diving, Inc.

Directions: All participants will fly into Kahului, Maui airport.  Exit

the airport and stay on Dairy road and follow the signs to Kihei.   From Dairy road you will make left onto Puunene Hwy which will turn into Hoo Piilani Hwy.  Make a right on Lipoa St. and the aquatic center will be on your right hand side.

Feel free to make copies of the diving registration form and sheets as needed.   Registration deadline is August 5^th, 2008.  I would like to have all the diving sheets at the deadline so that I can enter them into the computerized score board program. Mail all registrations and diving sheets to Bill Sutton at address above.  Late registrations are welcome at a fee of $5 per diver.  Diving sheets may be changed up until the start of each event.

1 meter and 3 meter Novice Events:

Novice events will be divided into 4 groups.

                    1. Girls 9 and under                    

                    2. Girls 10 and over

                    3. Boys 9 and under

                    4. Boys 10 and over  

The novice groups will have 3 Levels.

Bronze Level: 6 skills, or 5 skills + 1 dive       (1.0 dd on all skills & dives)

Silver   Level: 4 skills + 2 dives, or 3 skills + 3 dives    (true dd on dives)

Gold    Level: 2 skills + 4 dives, or 1 skill + 5 dives      (true dd on dives)

Skills: 100abc, 200abc, 001abc, 002abc, and twisting jumps  (1.0 dd)

Skills may be repeated if done in different positions.  Dives must be different dives. Note that the silver and gold levels will use true dd on their dives. Age and gender divisions are listed above and your age at the meet determines your age group.

1 Meter and 3 Meter USA Diving Junior Event Summary:

11& Under  1m: 3 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 5.0) + 3 opt dives(from diff groups)

                      3m: 3 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 5.4) + 3 opt dives

12/13             1m: 4 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 7.2) + 3 opt dives

                      3m: 4 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 7.6) + 3 opt dives

14/15             1m: 5 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 9.0) + 3 opt dives(G) 4 opt dives (B)

                      3m: 5 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 9.5) + 3 opt dives(G) 4 opt dives (B)

16-18                          1m: 5 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 9.0) + 4 opt dives(G) 5 opt dives (B)

3m: 5 vol dives(from diff groups, max dd 9.5) + 4 opt dives(G) 5 opt dives (B)

Open Group A: 1 Meter and 3 Meter

This event is an open age group event (Ages 19 & Over) men and women separate.

9 Dives:  5 vol dives (from diff groups, max dd 9.5)

               4 opt dives (from diff groups without limits)

Open Group B: 1 Meter and 3 Meter

This event is an open age group event (Ages 19 & Over) men and women separate.

6 Dives:  Dives can be from any group, but must have different dive numbers.

AUGUST 9, 2008 TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

10:30           Boards are open

                              (Divers must be registered and diving sheets turned in.)

                              (Divers Coach must be on the pool deck)

11:00          Late registration and diving sheets due. Late fee $5 per diver.

12:00           Judges’ and Coaches’ Meeting (Boards Closed)

12:15           Competition begins
