BACK DIVE , ONE-HALF TWIST, STRAIGHT

DIVE 5211A

 SPRINGBOARD BIO-MECHANICS DISCUSSION

1.  During the pressing action, angle the body slightly backward.  Keep eyes focused on the back end of the board.

2.  As arms reach overhead, they are shoulder-width apart with palms facing either inward or forward.  The arms extend slightly behind the ears.

3.  Torso remains hollow, and, as legs extend, with knees straight, balls of feet push downward and slightly backward into the board, creating an equal and opposite reaction carrying the body upward and, combined with the arms/upper body positioning, backward, while creating enough rotation for the half somersault to be done

4.  As the legs complete their extension, lift the shoulder of the lead arm for the twist upward and backward, while maintaining the other arm in a parallel position.

5.  Shift the eyes from the back of the board 180 degrees and look down toward entry point.

6.  Set the arms as soon as possible after feet leave the board and twist is completed.

7.  Set position is maintained until the body is just short of vertical.

8.  Still sighting the water, prepare for arms to close for entry.

9. Maintaining a hollow upper body and locked midsection, move the arms laterally from “set” position until they come overhead.

10.  Flip the wrists such that palms face the water and maneuver hands into grabbed entry position such that the flat palm is parallel to the water.

11.  Align the body for a drop to the water that results in an entry line just short of vertical.
